When joining a Tox group chat, your IP address is visible to everyone in the group chat.
Connecting either via Tor, a SOCKS/HTTP proxy, a VPN, or running Tox remotely on a VPS mitigates exposing your IP.
Group chats require recent enough Toxcore (>= v0.2.19) and a client that supports the new group chats, e.g. toxic.

As of 2024, simply registering a nickname and verifying the email automatically grants you a cloak that replaces the IP address, as long as you log into your account before joining the channel. Use SASL authentication to make sure you always log into your account before joining any channels.
Connecting either via Tor, an intermediary bouncer/VPS or a SOCKS/HTTP proxy also mitigates exposing your IP.
