As of 2024, simply [[https://libera.chat/guides/registration | registering a nickname]] and verifying the email [[https://libera.chat/guides/cloaks | automatically grants you a cloak that replaces the IP address]], as long as you log into your account before joining the channel. Use [[https://libera.chat/guides/sasl | SASL authentication]] to make sure you always log into your account before joining any channels.

Connecting either via [[https://libera.chat/guides/connect#accessing-liberachat-via-tor | Tor]], [[https://znc.in | an intermediary bouncer]]/VPS or a SOCKS/HTTP proxy also mitigates exposing your IP.
